Understanding MHECtech : Our Mission

Our Mission - Committee Charge

MHEC’s Technologies Committee is to leverage the combined volume of as many of the campuses in our member states as possible by negotiating favorable agreements with technology vendors. In 1999 in response to the increasing use of technology by higher education, the commissioners* of the Midwestern Higher Education Compact established the Computing Resources Taskforce, later known as the Information Technologies Taskforce.  The purposes of the Taskforce are to:

  • Develop programs to provide access to computing hardware and software technologies;
  • Expand software training and information exchange opportunities;
  • Promote products and services tailored to educational needs;
  • Mentor committee members; and
  • Advocate the interests of Midwestern higher education in the development of new products and services.

The Taskforce is comprised of college, system, and university chief information officers; telecommunications directors; computing service directors; procurement officers; and educational planners representing both individual campuses and systems in the MHEC member states.

* See www.mhec.org/commissioners for a list of MHEC’s commissioners. There are five commissioners appointed by each member state, representing the executive and legislative branches of government as well as higher education leadership from that state.
