Understanding MHECtech : About Us

About the MHEC Technologies Committee

The MHEC Technologies Committee was first established in 1998 using volunteer members from the MHEC states. This tradition has continued to the present day.

The full committee is comprised of up to 5 members from each state.  Appointments are made by the MHEC President. Although alternates are allowed, they are discouraged for continuity’s sake. This committee meets face-to-face annually to hear program updates and to set direction for the coming year. The MHEC president also appoints the commitee chair.

On a monthly basis the Technologies Steering Committee meets. Two of these meetings are face-to-face; the others are by teleconference. Membership on this committee is restricted to one person from each of the MHEC states, chosen from the full committee, and appointed by the chair. This group tracks progress of the RFP committees, state representation on the full committee, and other pertinent tasks as assigned by the Technology Executive Committee. The chair of the full committee chooses the chair of this committee from the members of the Steering Committee.

The chair of the full committee chooses the Technology Executive Committee from the members of the Technology Steering Committee. They meet at least monthly and face-to-face at least quarterly to track progress in all programs, make appointments to RFP Committees, and to make work assignments to the Technologies Steering Committee. Each member of this small committee is responsible for a broad range of MHEC programs, such as hardware, software, or services.

RFP Committees are appointed by the Technology Executive Committee and are chaired most often by a member of the Technology Steering Committee. Members of an RFP committee need not be members of the full committee, and are selected based on their expertise relative to the RFP in question, a willingness to work for the common good, a broad understanding of the subject area, and ability to represent a specific segment of the user population.

The MHEC president, CIO, and counsel are ex officio members of all technology committees.
